The Journal of Arabic Language and Literature, which is issued by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Kufa, published a joint research by Assistant Professor Rasoul Bahnam, and Assistant Professor Muhammad Ali Diyai from the Department of Literature and Foreign Languages at the Iranian Teachers University entitled: (Introduction to the functions of brevity in speech as a moral virtue in my book “Golestan and Bustan”). By Saadi Al-Shirazi), the importance of speech and its impact on the development of human life is not hidden from anyone, as it was stated in the heavenly books that the word and speech are considered as the first divine creature. However the use of this divine grace is also useful and valuable as long as it contains a benefit to the speaker or listener. The poets and orators, based on the Noble Qur’an and religious texts in Islam, emphasized the use of speech and reduced it at the appropriate time, and considered that prolonging speech was not a virtue but a vice. This study, based on the descriptive analytical method, aimed to treat the verses and phrases of two valuable books of Saadi, “Golestan” and “Bostan”, as they contain some prose and poetry, to show the point of view of this famous poet about the virtue and importance of brevity in speech. For this, the necessary data was collected and analyzed, and an approach was chosen for the exploration of documents, stationery and computer software. The results showed that Al-Saadi believes that silence is sometimes more valuable than speech and that this speech, despite its value, should be used in necessary situations and situations.
