The Department of Geography at the College of Arts at the University of Kufa held a panel discussion entitled (Acid rain and its environmental effects).
The panel discussion reviewed the history of the increase in the acidity of rain, which began to increase with the beginning of the industrial revolution, as a result of the huge emissions of sulfur oxides and carbon dioxide that are released into the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels such as oil and coal.
The episode showed that precipitation is not necessarily in the form of rain, snow, or fog, as acid compounds may arrive in a dry form, and therefore acid rain from a chemical point of view; It is all atmospheric chemical precipitation that reaches the surface of the earth by all means, whether wet or dry, and the acidity of rain is not constant throughout the year, as it varies from season to season.
The panel discussion also warned of acid precipitation, which then has negative effects on the systems of rivers, lakes, soil, human health, buildings and monuments.
