College of Arts discusses a thesis entitled (Elements of Graphic Performance in the Poetry of Ibn al-Zaqaq al-Balansi)

The College of Arts – Department of Arabic Language at the University of Kufa discussed the master thesis entitled (Elements of Graphic Performance in the Poetry of Ibn Al-Zaqq Al-Balansi) by the student Hamida Muhammad Madhan.
The study aims to review and describe the life of the Andalusian poet Ibn al-Zaqqaq al-Balansi, nicknamed the “Poet of Description,” lived in the Almoravids era, which influenced the development of his poetry. He was also known for his adherence to the nation’s heritage, history, literature, and poetic traditions, but he was able to maintain his independent personality. He reconciled the poetic heritage with innovation. He presented poetic creativity as a result of many components that formed his poetic personality. He carried in his poetry traditional ideas with an Andalusian perspective imprinted with the features of a civilized environment.
The study followed the descriptive analytical method, which is based on reading poetic texts, analyzing them, and revealing what is behind the text. The study reached a set of results, the most prominent of which is that the narrative image was present in his poems. The story, the call, and the dialogue are narrative means that the poet used in constructing his images. To express his different poetic purposes, some of Ibn Al-Zaqqaq’s poems are sentimental in a narrative nature, and on almost the same rhetorical and poetic level, despite the multiplicity of their poetic purposes. In his collection, verses or couplets prevailed, as the purpose in the poem was given priority over anything else, from a flirtatious or flirtatious beginning, a description or something else, if the poet wants to lament, for example, he begins with it.
The study also found that the Andalusian environment is present in Ibn al-Zaqaq’s Andalusian poetry in terms of meanings and words, despite his adherence to Arab civilization, as we found only one poem written in the style of the muwashah in his collections, as the poet is an orientalist in an Andalusian environment.
